So, just in case you were confused, we’re in Houston, not Sandy Eggo. So, when we say “meet at Liberty Station at 8 PM tonight,” we’re not recommending that you hop a plane and meet us here. 2 January 2012: Start the year off right at El Gran Malo

Whether or not you might have (ahem) over-indulged this weekend, come out for a little pelos del perro tonight at El Gran Malo, at 2307 Ella Blvd. If you want to sample EGM’s great tacos, or you want to catch happy hour before it’s over, come by at 7 PM; if you’re just interested in the infused tequilas and good (albeit short) beer list, and don’t care about the cost, stop by at 8 PM. Either way, enjoy yourself responsibly, as Señor Luchador is watching.

Houston, we have no manned space flight program. With the successful completion of STS-135, the Shuttle program is over. So, while we will now pay the Russians to deliver our astronauts to the Space Station with money we borrow from the Chinese (or, in true reflexive fashion, ourselves), let’s have a beer or mixed drink to celebrate/commemorate/commiserate. Technically, the dog days won’t start for a week or two, but we’ll still have a siriusly good time tonight at The Boneyard, 8150 Washington Ave, Houston’s only dog park bar. Bring Fido so he can enjoy the 7,000 sq ft fenced-in dog park, and you can enjoy a beer or glass of wine from their bar. See you there at 8 PM.

13 June 2011: A Visit to Liberty (Space) Station

Tonight, the Interantional Space Station will be visible over Houston. Given our weather of late, it should be prime viewing time. What better way to try out a new Monday night destination. And although Liberty Station, at 2101 Washington Ave, celebrated their one-year anniversary over the weekend, this is the first visit for the Diasporites. Nine taps (regularly and carefully rotated), a full bar,a spacious patio, and a reportedly laid-back vibe compared to other spots in the corridor. Feel free to bring your grub in, or take your chances–there may or may not be a food truck on the lot tonight. See you there at 8 PM.

Coming Soon: Texas Beer Festival

The Texas Beer Festival is happening in Humble, TX on May 7th. There are a number of related events (a pub crawl and a number of beer dinners) happening during the week before and the week after the fest itself. Looks like it will be an interesting time to be in Humble and and the greater Houston-Humble-Tomball-Cut-n-Shoot-Clute Metroplex.
