Monday, 28 November 2011: What Greeks Secretly Dream Of At The Ginger Man

Even though the tryptophan coma has been largely debunked, come join us for a refreshing post-Turkey beer at  The Ginger Man (5607 Morningside).  See you there at 8 PM.

Monday, 7 November 2011: Hans’ Bier Haus

Posted by john | Meetings | Posted on November 7th, 2011

Join us tonight at Hans’ Bier Haus (2523 Quenby St. at Kirby Dr.).  Even if you can’t tell your boccino from your pallino (hint: they’re the same thing) on the bocce court, and there should be plenty of beer to quaff. Temperatures should be rather nice, a light jacket or sweater might be a good idea.

Monday, 24 October 2011: Beer, Tiki, and Mosquitos at Under the Volcano

Posted by mike | Meetings | Posted on October 24th, 2011

October 9th was the last time we saw appreciable rain in the Houston area.  That’s just enough time for all of the dormant floodwater mosquito eggs to hatch, grow, and become the adult bloodsuckers we all hate by, oh, right about now.  The good news:  floodwater skeeters don’t carry the nasty human-affecting diseases like West Nile and Viral Encephalitis. The bad news:  since they’re a (relatively) benign nuisance, the City doesn’t spend your tax dollars on spraying for them.  They’ll be around through at least the end of the week, depending on whether we get a decent cold snap or not.

So, for now, even though the weather is otherwise temperate, let’s enjoy our libations inside, at Under the Volcano, 2349 Bissonnet Street at Morningside.  UtV is a great place for beers, tiki drinks, and a jukebox with a diverse selection of actual CDs, all of which can be enjoyed under a palapa roof and inside closed or screened windows. See you there at 8 PM.

Monday, 10 October 2011: Discover Great Beer at The Ginger Man

Posted by john | Meetings | Posted on October 10th, 2011

Today is celebrated by many people, and known by many names: Columbus Day (USA/ EEUU); Día de la Raza (Latin America); Discovery Day (the Bahamas*); Día de la Hispanidad (Spain/España); Fiesta Nacional (Spain again: the day so nice they named it twice?); Día de las Américas (Uruguay/Uruguay, which yes, we know, is in Latin America); Thanksgiving Day (in Canadia/the 51st State); or Indigenous Peoples’ Day (in Bezerkeley and other leftist enclaves). Whatever you’re celebrating, there’s sure to be libations in the form of good beer at  The Ginger Man (5607 Morningside).  See you there at 8 PM.

*The Bahamas apparently doesn’t have a problem with definite articles, unlike touchy Ukraine.  Ukraine doesn’t celebrate anything on the second Monday in October; in fact, there are no public holidays in Ukraine during the fourth quarter.  We think they should have kept the “the” and taken some 4Q time off, like we do in “United States.”
