Today is celebrated by many people, and known by many names: Columbus Day (USA/ EEUU); Día de la Raza (Latin America); Discovery Day (the Bahamas*); Día de la Hispanidad (Spain/España); Fiesta Nacional (Spain again: the day so nice they named it twice?); Día de las Américas (Uruguay/Uruguay, which yes, we know, is in Latin America); Thanksgiving Day (in Canadia/the 51st State); or Indigenous Peoples’ Day (in Bezerkeley and other leftist enclaves). Whatever you’re celebrating, there’s sure to be libations in the form of good beer at The Ginger Man (5607 Morningside). See you there at 8 PM.

*The Bahamas apparently doesn’t have a problem with definite articles, unlike touchy Ukraine. Ukraine doesn’t celebrate anything on the second Monday in October; in fact, there are no public holidays in Ukraine during the fourth quarter. We think they should have kept the “the” and taken some 4Q time off, like we do in “United States.”

On this date in 1785, British inventor Joseph Bramah patented the beer-pump handle, providing a way for beer geeks to differentiate between those who like their beer with carbonation and those who like “real” ale without having to keep a firkin on the counter. Tonight we return to The Ginger Man, 5607 Morningside, for some cereal libations and hang time. The G’Man is one of a very few pubs in town with a pump-handle beer engine on-line, so whether you want a cask ale, a modern draught, or something from the bottle, they’ve got you covered. Coming Soon: Texas Beer Festival

The Texas Beer Festival is happening in Humble, TX on May 7th. There are a number of related events (a pub crawl and a number of beer dinners) happening during the week before and the week after the fest itself. Looks like it will be an interesting time to be in Humble and and the greater Houston-Humble-Tomball-Cut-n-Shoot-Clute Metroplex.
