The Petrol Station has some friends visiting from the Big “D” and is celebrating by tapping a keg of IPA from one of the newest craft breweries in Texas. We promise this won’t be one of those “oh, I want my two friends who don’t have anything in common except me to meet and be friends” kind of awkward platonic set ups where everybody is uncomfortable and just wants to leave. Come out to sample the new beer, or to take advantage of their ‘pint and a burger‘ Monday night special, or maybe some rosemary feta french fries and a pint. Or just a pint. 2 January 2012: Start the year off right at El Gran Malo

Whether or not you might have (ahem) over-indulged this weekend, come out for a little pelos del perro tonight at El Gran Malo, at 2307 Ella Blvd. If you want to sample EGM’s great tacos, or you want to catch happy hour before it’s over, come by at 7 PM; if you’re just interested in the infused tequilas and good (albeit short) beer list, and don’t care about the cost, stop by at 8 PM. Either way, enjoy yourself responsibly, as Señor Luchador is watching.

It’s supposed to rain tonight, so leave yourself plenty of extra drive time. Come out to the Petrol Station, nonetheless, to take advantage of their ‘pint and a burger’ Monday night special, or maybe some rosemary feta french fries and a pint. Or just a pint. Infused tequilas, check. Fun tacos, check. Good (if short) beer list, check. Lucador painting, check. Everything we need for a happy Halloween. Come out to El Gran Malo, at 2307 Ella Blvd, for some of each. Happy Hour runs to 7:30, so it might make sense to come by an hour earlier than normal (say, 7:00 PM), for tacos. Or just show up at 8:00 and pay full prices.

It should be a ideal night tonight at The Petrol Station, at 985 Wakefield in Garden Oaks. Their 35-tap selection rotates regularly, so there should be something for everyone. Come by at 8 PM to whet your whistle and enjoy the patio, as we are in the midst of the most agreeable weather in several months. Still could use some rain, though.

Just how bitter are you? Not bitter, you say, just consumed by a gnawing hate that’s eating away at your gut until you can taste the bile in your mouth? Either way, come out tonight to the Petrol Station, at 985 Wakefield in war-ravaged Garden Oaks. As the only non-Saucer establishment in Texas that’s competing in Stone Brewing’s Most Bitter Bar Challenge 2011, they have one week to serve up as many pints of Stone’s ‘hop-forward’ styles as possible. Somehow the various Bastards don’t make the list. Whatever. I’m not going to be bitter about—wait, I think I will be. That’s the whole point.

Anyway, come on out tonight at 8 PM and show just how bitter you can be in the area-that-isn’t-quite-the-heights. Check out the recently-leased parking lot across the street. And if you’re feelin’ all Polyanna/Pangloss, there are lots of other beers you can drink. Just be ready for us to sneer across the picnic table at you. Jeesh.

Plonk Bistro at 43rd and Ella has been on our radar for some time, and deserves a trial run. This week in particular should be a good time to try it out. Coincident with American Craft Beer Week, Deschutes Brewery (our third-most-favorite entity in Bend, OR) is doing some special things around town for what they’re calling Base Camp Week. Plonk’s main time to shine for Base Camp is the beer dinner tomorrow night, but they should have Deschutes specials all week long. See you there at 8 PM.

Monday, 25 April 2011: No drought of draught at the Petrol Station

There’s not much chance of rain this week here in Texas, and we sure could use some. And while The Petrol Station, at 985 Wakefield in scrappy, ready-to-rumble Garden Oaks, doesn’t have some great rain-making apparatus, their tap selection rotates regularly, so at least there should be a breeze at the bar. So come by at 8 PM to whet your whistle and enjoy the patio in one of the few upsides to our dry spell.
