A rare foray outside the Loop tonight for a vist to the Petrol Station, 985 Wakefield Dr, in Garden Oaks.  This place is reported to have good coffee as well as a well-chosen, if smallish, selection of beers.

Yes, that’s right, there’s a Chicago branch. No saucer here, and the saucer equivalents aren’t centrally located and are roughly 3x the price of the saucer. Thus, we’ve been settling for Bowman’s. Super convenient, $3 drafts (most of which are so-so), a mediocre bottle list, but we make up for it all with the $3 burger and fries on Monday nights. Just don’t order cheese or chipotle mayo, because that’ll cost you extra….

Tonight we meet at The Ginger Man, 5607 Morningside Dr.  Plenty of draughts and bottles, pitiful wine selection, no hard liquor, impossible parking, laughable bathrooms, and limited indoor seating.   But lots and lots of character.
